Forward Deployed Engineer (Databricks)
About the Company
Work with this leading Databricks partner, where you will play a key role in shaping data engineering and intelligent analytics solutions. We work closely with clients to remove technical blockers and accelerate best practices across their big data platforms. This role will allow you to partner with enterprise clients to design and deliver advanced solutions using Databricks and leading cloud services such as AWS, Azure, and GCP.
About the Opportunity
This is a full-time, senior-level embedded placement inside an engineering team of PhDs, quantitative researchers, and trading technologists moving at an extraordinary pace. They are self-sufficient, opinionated, and technically rigorous.
It is a deeply hands-on environment where priorities shift daily. Scope is loosely defined by design—we hire people who can define it themselves. Expect to be curious, autonomous, and to take true ownership, even outside of Databricks systems. You will also get the opportunity to engage with rapidly evolving GenAI technologies, including Databricks Genie and AI BI, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible to deliver real business outcomes.
Your Impact and Responsibilities
- Hands-On Engineering: Lead and contribute to the project using Databricks, Apache Spark, and related big data tools to build scalable, high-performing pipelines. Optimize Spark workloads against hard latency budgets and design robust streaming architectures.
- AI & Semantic Modeling: Design, implement, and fine-tune Databricks Genie spaces and AI BI dashboards to enable conversational, natural-language data exploration. Code out medallion layers and think through semantic layers for stakeholders’ agentic workflows.
- Technical Leadership: Shape the technical direction of Databricks adoption across six offices. Advise the client on strategic technical decisions, challenge assumptions, and guide the team in overcoming roadblocks.
- Cross-Platform Integration: Work across cloud platforms, integrating Databricks with complex data ecosystems (including Hadoop, Flink, Presto, Redshift, and others).
- Beyond Engineering: Step beyond pure engineering when needed—setting project priorities, making product calls for early-stage applications, and translating complex business requirements into technical deliverables.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Expertise: 5+ years of experience in technical data engineering or consulting roles.
- Databricks platform experience: Must have hands-on experience in development on Databricks. Strong grasp of DBX as a platform, including its AI offerings, and DBT.
- Platform Breadth: Current knowledge across the breadth of the Databricks product and platform, with specific, practical familiarity with Databricks Genie and Unity Catalog
- Certifications: Completed Data Engineering Professional certification and required classes (Databricks Data Engineering Professional or Associate Certification).
- Core Tech Stack: Deep expertise with cloud data architectures, Databricks platform, and Apache Spark.
Preferred Skills
- Domain Background: A background in finance or developer experience (DevEx) would be ideal but not necessary.
- Advanced AI Deployment: Hands-on experience deploying Databricks AI BI (Dashboards and Genie) to deliver intuitive, AI-powered insights to business users.
- Multi-Engine Exposure: Experience with BigQuery, Synapse, Redshift, Hadoop, Flink, Presto.
- Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with a natural ability to challenge and lead technical strategy.
What You’ll Gain
- A defined, high-impact piece of work with a clear scope and timeline inside a high-pace trading and quantitative environment.
- Deep exposure to advanced AI, intelligent BI, and data engineering projects shaping enterprise capabilities.
- Flexible working options and competitive remuneration.
