Senior Software Engineer

  • Permanent / Full Time
  • Newcastle

What’s in it for you?
Do you want your engineering craft to protect and power generations of heritage, rather than just building another standard commercial application? This is your opportunity to step into a vital senior technical presence during an exciting transition into a modern, web-centric SaaS world. You will enjoy genuine ownership to shape both a flagship product and a growing engineering team from the ground up. Based out of a flexible hybrid setup in Newcastle, this role respects your time while offering you the space to do deeply fulfilling, purpose-driven work.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Act as a core individual contributor across the stack in a role balanced as a 60/40 split between hands-on building and high-impact technical leadership.
  • Design, write, and deliver well-crafted features end-to-end.
  • Partner closely with the Engineering Manager and the CTO to establish modern engineering processes, drive agile practices, and tackle technical debt.
  • Collaborate with and mentor a small engineering team, raising the quality bar across the board by modelling excellent technical habits.
  • Lead the technical design and operational foundations, like observability and architecture decisions, for a flagship storage, mobile, and web SaaS platform.
  • Navigate complex environments where data sovereignty, cultural protocols, and ethical governance requirements are just as critical as the technical code.

Experience required:

  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally with time spent in product-based or SaaS environments.
  • Strong proficiency with Node and TypeScript, paired with experience in a Reactive JS framework like React, Angular, or Vue.
  • Solid experience building and architecting on AWS, with a strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code (relevant AWS certifications are highly regarded).
  • A proactive approach to AI, treating agentic workflows, LLMs, and prompt engineering as a core part of your daily development craft.
  • Deep familiarity with Agile methodologies and a genuine curiosity about how AI is reshaping these workflows.
  • Cultural humility, openness, and respect for diverse decision-making and knowledge-sharing frameworks.
