Technical Business Analyst
About the Company
Work with a pioneering provider of AI-driven electrical digital twins for electricity distribution networks. We empower utilities to gain unprecedented visibility into utilization, capacity, and constraints across every asset, screen and assess grid connections, and control distributed energy resources (DER) in real time.
About the Opportunity
As a Technical Business Analyst, you will step into a vital, multi-faceted environment where you will be the absolute bridge between external utility data/IT teams and the internal engineering squads.
This is a hands-on role where you will own the data onboarding process end to end woith clients. Scope is dynamically defined as we scale our international implementations—we look for autonomous individuals who can confidently navigate real-world, messy utility data, manage multi-stakeholder expectations, and establish clear technical documentation. Crucially, as we continue to build our automated ingestion pipeline, your day-to-day insights will directly shape our automation roadmap, shifting your impact from manual data wrangling to architecting future platform features.
Your Impact and Responsibilities
- End-to-End Onboarding Management: Run data onboarding for assigned utility clients from the initial scoping call through to fully validated data live in the digital twin platform.
- Stakeholder Interface & Scoping: Sit directly between utility IT/data teams and engineers. Work collaboratively with utility staff to identify, scope, and extract complex data from core source systems (including AMI/MDM, GIS, SCADA, DER registries, and asset databases).
- Data Mapping & Transformation: Map incoming utility data models directly to Gridsight’s data model. Meticulously document mappings, specific transformations, and unique exceptions.
- Data Profiling & Quality Validation: Profile incoming data packages to identify critical anomalies such as data gaps, duplicates, network topology errors, and unit mismatches, driving these through to resolution with both the utility and internal engineering teams.
- Technical Documentation: Author clear, engineering-grade technical documentation, including data specifications, mapping documents, exception logs, and reusable onboarding runbooks.
- Pipeline Automation Strategy: Feed your hands-on data-wrangling insights back into Gridsight’s product and engineering roadmaps, ensuring the manual processes of today are successfully integrated as automated pipeline features tomorrow.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Core Expertise: Proven professional experience working as a Technical Business Analyst, Data Analyst, or Data Engineer on complex data migration or system integration projects.
- Data Wrangling Proficiency: Strong SQL skills combined with hands-on capability utilizing Python (or similar) for comprehensive data profiling, validation, and transformation.
- External Client Delivery: Demonstrable experience working directly with external business and technical stakeholders—specifically extracting requirements, negotiating data delivery scopes, and explaining technical constraints in clear, plain language.
- Technical Autonomy: Ability to independently read, evaluate, and produce rigorous technical specifications, data models, and API documentation without needing continuous engineering supervision.
- Ambiguity Resilience: High comfort level with ambiguity, changing processes, busy client contacts, and inherently messy source data structures.
Preferred Skills
- Domain Knowledge: Prior experience with electricity utility data frameworks, including AMI/meter data, GIS network models, SCADA telemetry, or DER/interconnection records.
- Advanced Data Patterns: Exposure to time-series data at scale alongside modern integration frameworks (REST APIs, file-based exchange patterns, and ETL/ELT tooling).
- Network & Security Standards (Nice to Have): Exposure to power engineering or network modeling principles (such as powerflow, hosting capacity, and operating envelopes) or prior experience deploying solutions into highly regulated, security-conscious environments (e.g., ISO 27001, NERC CIP).
What You’ll Gain
- A high-impact role where your individual execution directly dictates how quickly international utilities unlock value from the company’s AI platform.
- A uniquely hybrid professional focus that blends technical analysis, data engineering, and strategic client management.
- The opportunity to directly influence the architectural automation of an advanced, real-time AI product stack.
- Flexible remote working arrangements with the office based in Sydney
