About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Data Architect to bridge the gap between high-level business strategy and modern cloud data design. Reporting into the Principal Architect, you will lead the evolution of the enterprise data architecture from the ground up. This is a highly autonomous role that will require strong technical knowledge and top-tier communication skills. You will be tasked with translating complex data concepts to non-technical business leaders, ensuring compliance with strict government privacy and data sovereignty rules, and moving systems toward a sophisticated, event-managed model. If you thrive in high-pressure, transformative environments and enjoy bringing a conceptual model all the way down to physical execution, this role is for you.

Required Core Responsibilities

  • Architectural Strategy & Modeling: Lead the development of the enterprise data strategy; build out the enterprise conceptual model and mature it down into robust logical and physical models.
  • Modern Architecture Implementation: Embed core processes and principles into the data architecture, with a heavy focus on shifting toward Event-Driven Architecture (EDA), event schemas, contracts, and CQRS patterns.
  • Data Governance & Compliance: Apply DMBOK frameworks to manage master data management (MDM), data profiling, metadata, and data lineage.
  • Security & Sovereignty: Define and monitor data structures that adhere to strict government industry privacy regulations and data protection mandates.
  • Stakeholder & Vendor Collaboration: Act as the critical translator between technical delivery teams and business stakeholders; collaborate directly with strategic vendors to ensure high-level designs meet organizational standards.
  • Capacity & Integration Planning: Guide agile project teams through complex integration challenges (APIs, messaging, ETL/ELT) and lead long-term data capacity planning.

Experience & Skills Needed

  • Proven Track Record: 5+ years of experience in Cloud Data platforms or data engineering, including a minimum of 3 to 5 years operating specifically as a Data Architect.
  • Cloud Architecture: Cloud data certification or experience (AWS is highly preferred, Azure is acceptable) with proven experience architecting modern data lakes, warehouses, and lakehouses.
  • Event-Based Architecture: Hands-on experience designing event-managed systems, including event ownership, domain boundaries, and separating write vs. read models (CQRS).
  • Framework: Practical knowledge of DMBOK and familiarity with the 9 domains of enterprise architecture (e.g., TOGAF).
  • Industry Background: Previous experience working within or alongside the government or highly regulated sector is highly advantageous, alongside a sophisticated understanding of strict privacy rules.
  • Strong Communication: Good interpersonal skills with the capability to talk to the business at the right level, display personal resilience in pressurized environments, and provide frank, objective advice.
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
